What does it mean to be the salt of the earth, and the light of the world? We're trying to be like Christ. We are called to offer ourselves up in a selfless way, our own wants, our own desires, instead of just looking out for ourselves.

Not just for our fellow Christians, not just for our families, not just for our fellow parishioners, but for the whole world. Christ is calling us to something deeper, something greater, so he's telling us, I want you to be the salt of the earth, and the light of the world.

In the Beatitudes, Jesus reveals his heart to the disciples. He’s painting a picture about who He is. He wants to develop a relationship with us. All these blessings, this is who I am. Follow me. Imitate me. Be like me. This is the path to holiness. The beatitudes start with the basics, they build upon each other, to heaven. The beatitudes are the path for happiness and the path for holiness.

The 3 Magi recognize Jesus as God and King. The magi can no longer return on the road they came on - both physically, because of Herod’s hunger for power, and interiorly. They are transformed by their encounter with Jesus.

The magi give Jesus gifts - we are called to do the same. What does Jesus desire? He wants the gift of you. What is he going to do with this gift? He’s going to transform you. We are called to walk in a new way, to walk on the road of love which alone can transform the world.
